This project is titled “compartment” rather than apartment because of its extremely small footprint, and through thoughtful design; compartmentalised layout. Among a collection of 8 heritage listed art deco apartments, Strutt Studios meticulously crafted a unique, compact home. By cleverly altering the layout, the space was redesigned to maximize both function and comfort but still retain the heritage character. The sources of inspiration that underpin the interiors include original design features such as the pink terrazzo flooring, and brass curved light fittings. The design scheme set out to reimagine these details in a contemporary manner, as seen in the terrazzo kitchen flooring and unsealed brass fixtures. Another mentionable influence was the fluted glass, as shown in the tight, linear pattern on cabinetry and the shower screen.
